SOCCER IN THE MORNING LEARNING IN THE AFTERNOON
SANTA ANA – Thirty to forty youths and members of the Garden Grove Boys & Girls Club will participate in a three-day spring soccer camp and a criminal justice program conducted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The program began at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2004, and ends on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, with District Attorney Tony Rackauckas passing out certificates of completion.
The Second Annual Spring Soccer Camp, sponsored by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, will give these youths a chance to interact with professionals and inspirational speakers with various backgrounds and fields. This program is designed to provide its participants with a positive experience to learn about the criminal justice system and discuss topics about peer pressure. The Garden Grove Boys & Girls Club selected the members to participate in the program.
During the morning session, participants learn soccer techniques and skills from a coach who has volunteered his time for the program. In the afternoon session, the program includes educational workshops conducted by a police officer, a district attorney, an investigator, a private attorney, and other professionals from community agencies. Students will be provided with an opportunity to network and learn from these professionals.
The District Attorney Community Education Services unit will spearhead this event. District Attorney Rackauckas created the unit in 1999 to link Orange County’s diverse community with law enforcement by providing information and education about the criminal justice system.
