SOFTBALL COACH CHARGED WITH MOLESTING

are encouraging victims and witnesses to come forward

FULLERTON – A softball coach charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old player posted bail today and was released from jail. George Quevedo Quintana, 36, Anaheim, is charged with four felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, on felony count of oral copulation of a person under 14, and a sentencing enhancement allegation for substantial sexual conduct with a child. He faces a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison if convicted on all charges. The People requested he be held on $250,000 bail at an arraignment yesterday, but the defendant was released after posting $100,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned October 5, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. in Department N-3, North Justice Center, Fullerton.

Quintana met 12-year-old Jane Doe while volunteering as a coach for her team with the West Grove Girls Softball League in Garden Grove. On September 3, 2007 Quintana is accused of taking 12-year-old Jane Doe to his Anaheim home for the afternoon. He is accused of sexually assaulting the victim by kissing, digitally penetrating, and orally copulating her.  The victim immediately reported the assault to her mother, who contacted the police.

“We are very concerned that this defendant has bailed out of custody before we have had an opportunity to determine if there are additional victims,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Carol Henson of the Sexual Assault Unit, who is prosecuting this case. “Mr. Quintana has been the coach of more than one softball team and has had access to numerous little girls, which is alarming.”

The Anaheim Police Department is investigating this case. Anyone with additional information or who believes they have been a victim is encouraged to contact Supervising District Attorney Investigator Craig Kelsey at (714)347-8794.
