SOFTBALL COACH CONVICTED OF MOLESTING
12-YEAR-OLD TEAM PLAYER AT HIS ANAHEIM HOME

FULLERTON – A softball coach was convicted today of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old player on his team after taking the child to his Anaheim home. George Quevedo Quintana, 37, Anaheim, pleaded guilty to the court to four felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 and one felony count of oral copulation of a person under 14 with a sentencing enhancement allegation for substantial sexual conduct with a child. The defendant was released on $100,000 bail and is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in state prison at his sentencing on May 19, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in Department N-3, North Justice Center, Fullerton.

Quintana met 12-year-old Jane Doe while volunteering as a coach for her softball team with the West Grove Girls Softball League in Garden Grove. On September 3, 2007, Quintana used his position to gain the trust of the victim and her family and picked up Jane Doe from her home to spend the day with him. He took the victim to the beach and the movies before driving her to his Anaheim home. Once at Quintana’s house, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim by kissing, digitally penetrating, and orally copulating her.  The defendant then drove Jane Doe back to her house. The victim’s mother noticed that Jane Doe seemed upset, and after questioning her daughter about the afternoon, Jane Doe told her mother about the assault. Jane Doe’s mother immediately contacted the police.

Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Herrera of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
