STANTON MAN CONVICTED OF POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ANNOYING A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHILE AT PUBLIC LIBRARY

WESTMINSTER – A man was convicted today of possessing child pornography and annoying a 12-year-old girl while at the Stanton Public Library. Alejandro Lorenzo Contreras, 24, Stanton, pleaded guilty to a court offer to one misdemeanor count of possession of child pornography and one misdemeanor count of child annoyance. He is expected to be sentenced to one year in jail, three years of formal probation, and mandatory sex offender registration on Oct. 7, 2010, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-14, West Justice Center, Westminster.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 13, 2010, Contreras arrived at the Stanton Public Library located near Katella Avenue and Beach Boulevard. The defendant followed three young girls inside the building and made the girls feel uncomfortable. He followed the girls out of the library and asked 12-year-old Jane Doe to take and send a picture of herself and send it to him via cell phone.

Jane Doe notified police. When he was detained, Contreras was in possession of pornography that depicted the image of another child on his cell phone.

Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
