STATEMENT FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY TONY RACKAUCKAS REGARDING THE SAN CLEMENT INCIDENT INVOLVING GREGORY HAIDL AND OCSD PERSONNEL
Santa Ana — I want to make it clear that my Office is currently looking into the incident surrounding the actions of some Sheriff’s Department personnel and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s (OCSD) interactions with three young men, including Gregory Haidl, in San Clemente on October 26, 2003. I feel that it is important to state that Sheriff Mike Carona shares my belief that a thorough review of these matters is critical to preserve the high degree of integrity and ethics of law enforcement in Orange County. Sheriff Carona has been completely forthcoming in all aspects of our review. It is at the request by my Office that the OCSD has stopped their internal investigation until my office has finished reviewing these matters. When our review of these matters is complete, we will turn over all appropriate findings to Sheriff Carona.
