STATEMENT ON LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM DECLARING SEPT. 16, 2017, “STRIKE OUT SLAVERY DAY”
“The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) commends the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Albert and Deidre Pujols, Arte Moreno, and Tim Mead for declaring Sept. 16, 2017, ‘Strike Out Slavery Day’ at Angel Stadium, and for hosting this important event. It is a dream come true for OCDA and the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force, who approached the Angels four years ago to create such an event, and the Pujols’ were the ‘Angels’ who turned this dream into a reality. Even though human trafficking and exploitation is a difficult subject, it is imperative that we discuss such important topics, especially with our children, in a safe environment.
“Since the inception of the OCDA Human Exploitation And Trafficking (HEAT) Unit in 2013, the Unit has obtained over 230 felony convictions and 210 state prison sentences, including six life terms. OCDA will continue to make Orange County a miserable place for those trafficking other humans, and especially for those who abuse children.”
