U.S. NAVY RECRUITER PLEADS GUILTY TO UNLAWFUL SEX WITH 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL HE MET AT
HIGH SCHOOL EVENT

SANTA ANA – A recruiter for the U.S. Navy was convicted today of having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old high school student, whom he met at a high school event. Ulises Vazquez Urbina, 28, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty to one felony count of statutory rape. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 16, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

U.S. Navy recruiter Urbina began recruiting at two Orange County high schools in the fall of 2007. He met 16-year-old Jane Doe, a high school student in Santa Ana, and gave the victim his card containing his cell phone number. Between Dec. 1, 2007 and June 23, 2008, Urbina had contact with Jane Doe through his MySpace page and met the victim on several occasions at a motel in Orange. He had unlawful sex with Jane Doe on multiple occasions.

Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
