AT HIGH SCHOOL EVENT

SANTA ANA – A recruiter for the U.S. Navy was sentenced today for having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old high school student, whom he met at a high school event. Ulises Vazquez Urbina, 28, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty on Jan. 5, 2009, to one felony count of statutory rape. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years of formal probation, is prohibited from being in the presence of children under the age of 18 unless accompanied by an adult who is pre-approved by the Orange County Department of Probation, and is required to have no contact with the victim.

U.S. Navy recruiter Urbina began recruiting at two Orange County high schools in the fall of 2007. He met 16-year-old Jane Doe, a high school student in Santa Ana, and gave the victim his card containing his cell phone number. Between Dec. 1, 2007 and June 23, 2008, Urbina had contact with Jane Doe through his MySpace page and met the victim on several occasions at a motel in Orange. He had unlawful sex with Jane Doe on multiple occasions.
