U.S. NAVY RECRUITER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR HAVING UNLAWFUL SEX WITH 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL HE MET AT HIGH SCHOOL EVENT

 

SANTA ANA – A recruiter for the U.S. Navy will be arraigned today for having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old high school student, whom he met at a high school event. Ulises Vazquez Urbina, 28, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count of statutory rape. He faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison if convicted. Urbina is out of custody on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning, Monday, July 21, 2008, in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. 

 

Urbina is a recruiter for the U.S. Navy and became a recruiter at two Orange County high schools in the fall of 2007. He is accused of meeting 16-year-old Jane Doe, a high school in Santa Ana, and giving the victim his card containing his cell phone number. Between Dec. 1, 2007 and June 23, 2008, Urbina is accused of having contact with Jane Doe through his MySpace page and meeting the victim on several occasions at a motel in Orange. He is accused of having unlawful sex with the victim on multiple occasions when he was alone with Jane Doe.  

 

The Orange Police Department investigated this case. Deputy District Attorney Nikki Buracchio of the Sexual Assault Unit is prosecuting this case.
