WESTMINSTER HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER CHARGED WITH HAVING ILLEGAL SEX WITH A FEMALE, 17-YEAR-OLD STUDENT HE MET ON SCHOOL SPONSORED EUROPEAN TRIP

WESTMINSTER – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced today the filing of charges on a Westminster High School teacher for having illegal sex with Jane Doe, a female 17-year-old former student of the high school.  Jeremy Grigg Daggett, 26, Huntington Beach, was charged with felony oral copulation and sexual penetration of a minor.  Daggett turned himself in to the Huntington Beach Police this afternoon and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at the West Justice Center, W-15, in Westminster.  The bail is currently set at $100,000.  If convicted of all charges, he could face a sentencing range of probation to three years and eight months in prison.

During the Summer of 2005, the defendant and other teachers chaperoned a school sponsored trip to Europe with several students.  While overseas, the defendant is accused of flirting with the minor.  He was told by other teachers that their conduct was inappropriate.  The defendant did not teach Jane Doe while she was attending Westminster High School. The defendant taught history, AP economics and was the coach for various sports.

After they returned home, the defendant is accused of continuing a relationship with her and eventually engaging in illegal sex with her in his home in Huntington Beach on August 27, 2005.  The defendant is accused of engaging in mutual oral copulation, digital penetration, and masturbation with Jane Doe.

Jane Doe later told her friends and parents what happened.  The parents notified the school.  Jane Doe then reported the incident to the Huntington Beach Police Department who conducted the investigation.  Senior Deputy District Attorney Dan Hess of the Sexual Assaults Unit will be prosecuting the case.
