WHITE SUPREMACIST SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE FOR BLUDGEONING AND MURDERING IRVINE 7-ELEVEN CLERK IN ATTEMPTED ROBBERY
SANTA ANA – A self proclaimed white supremacist was sentenced today to life without the possibility of parole for murdering a 7-Eleven Inc. (7-Eleven) clerk with his friend by bludgeoning the clerk and stabbing him with a hunting knife. Spencer William Fox, 24, Irvine, was convicted March 4, 2008 of murder and attempted first degree robbery. The sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a deadly weapon and murder during the commission of another felony were found true.
Co-defendant Travis Justin Frazier, 25, Tustin, was found guilty March 14, 2008 of the same charges. Frazier also faces life without the possibility of parole at his sentencing on May 9, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-35, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 2, 2004, Fox and Frazier entered a 7-Eleven in Irvine dressed in black and wearing masks and approached the store clerk. Frazier used a heavy metal flashlight to bludgeon Shuresh Dass, who was working behind the counter, seven times over the head, fracturing his skull. Fox climbed over the counter and stabbed the victim in the chest, piercing his heart, with a large hunting knife.
As Dass lay dying, Frazier ordered the victim to tell them how to open the cash register as Fox tried to pry it open with the knife. The defendants fled the scene after realizing that the victim was dead, and took off layers of clothes and laughed as they ran through the parking lot. The murder was captured on video by a store surveillance camera.
Irvine police officers set up a perimeter and a police canine led them to Frazier. Fox was arrested the following day at an apartment in Anaheim.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Matt Murphy of the Homicide Unit is prosecuting this case.
